First week at daycare

Mom had to go back to work this week, so you went to daycare at the Meadowlake Christian daycare. On the first day, your momma cried as she arrived to drop you off. She cried again on Thursday. Each day, you got a little more acclimated to your new surroundings. From the sound of things you are doing really well with the other children (5 others in all). Though your interaction mostly consists of looking around at them while they (many are up to a year older) try to pat you on the legs, etc. Your mom was really glad when the weekend came because she got to spend more time with you. I think she's getting adjusted well by now.
We were excited that you slept thru the night twice this week. That means that you basically sleep thru one feeding. It ends up being 6 to 7 hours straight which has been nice for our sleepy heads.
We went to the UCA tailgate party yesterday and stayed for the kickoff, but then we had to get home to warm you up. It got a lot more chilly than we prepared for. You had a good time being outside and seeing lots of new friends.
I finish off my last 3 days at Perks.com this week. After that, I'm starting up with Edgewater Technologies the following week - can't wait!

Church vs. the football fan

Jacob, you watched football ALL afternoon. I guess you deserved to sit around lazily all day since you went to church with us for the first time...ever. We were so proud to show you off at church, and Tim (pastor) mentioned you briefly in his sermon as an example of the hope we have in life. So we got home and all you wanted to do is eat and then sit in your swing watching the NFL. I mean it's like you have my TV watching gene or something. (See mom, I told you I couldn't help it when I was watching all that TV growing up. It's in my genetic makeup, and now Jacob has it as well.) There was a funny moment in church. We were sitting near the back, the church quiet, listening to the sermon when all of a sudden you started growling rather noisily. Your mom and I looked at each other knowingly, and I picked you up and took you to the cry room so you could finish your "growler". We laughed, and you did your thing. Your so cute.

PS. We both cheered when Seattle beat Dallas in a last minute come from behind victory.

Going on 10 (weeks); Big changes all around!

We took you to Wichita last weekend for your grandpa's birthday and your great grandpa's birthday. You did soooo well on our 7.5 hour trip. Kendra and I were both very impressed with your ability to sleep and remain calm. Everyone in the family got to meet you and were so thrilled to see you for the first time. Your cousins Kaitlyn and Olivia had a great time playing with you, and you loved seeing them again (remember you met them when you were 2 days old).
On Monday evening, we took you up to UCA for your momma's event: Second City (an improv comedy troupe). You got into a scuffle with the law....and the law won. I was proud of you though - you fought hard. Once they got you into cuffs, it was pretty much over.
You are engaging your mom & I with your eyes more each day, and you are even exhibiting some mild control of your hands, especially when it comes time for feeding or the "paci". You continue to love the swing that rocks you side to side, and the little animal friends that hang down over you in the seat.

Now, Jacob I'm positive that one day you'll have lots of opportunities for success. I hope to pass along some of the best virtues a man can hold. And I hope that my weaknesses remain unpassed. I know it's silly to be preaching to you now - you're only 9 1/2 weeks - but one day this will mean much more. I love you and I can't wait to get back to playing with you now. See ya! ~Dad

2 month checkup - coos till the end OH NO

There you were, cooing and cawing and giggling for the doctor and Kendra. Then the evil nurse came into the room, and stabbed you thrice in the legs. You went from euphoria to horror in the time it takes a needle to pierce the skin. Your mother was so upset for you.

You weigh 16lb, 10oz and measure 23 inches long. You're a baby giant, and it's all part of my master plan to raise the world's largest man. Will you be 8 or 9 feet tall? I'm shooting for longer - yeehaa - redneck science. Seriously though, we are very proud of you and love every minute we spend with you. Tonight I fed you and then rocked you and you nuzzled into my chin and neck. This was the first day that I remember you engaging my eyes with yours and you really seemed to recognize me. There was the look of familiarity on your face. I was blown away.

Love, Dad
